Respecify Starting Curve in Rules Sheet

Greetings.

I am having problems respecifying the starting curve of a ruled sheet.

I have a sketch defining one airfoil (the root), and another sketch defining the tip airfoil. From these two curves (in modeling), I create a ruled surface between them to create my wing skin. From this skin, I trim out the rudder surfaces, and trim the original skin to other surfaces as well.

Now I want to re-define my airfoil. I am brining in airfoils as splines, defined as points. I go to my original sketch, and import the new airfoil. Now I want to respecify my curves defining my wing skin.

I have tried clicking on "Respecify Starting Curve", but id does not allow me to pick my new airfoil. I have also tried removing the string (the old airfoil) and adding a new string (the new airfoil), and it gives me a "Face does not intersect face of too." in my original ruled surface.

Is there something I am doing wrong, or is there a better way to redefine my skin surface based on my new airfoils?

I need to redefine my airfoils so that I do not have to back and retrim all my surfaces.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Are the splines open or closed? If they are closed, maybe the one you are trying to insert looks closed but is not quite. I did a quick check with open splines and it let me replace a curve with the 'remove string then add string' method. Respecify starting curve is a little misleading as it lets you respecify the starting point on a curve, not specify a new curve. The error message you get is from the ruled surface feature itself and not one of the child features that depend on it? With a little more info, I think we can give some more help.

Thanks for looking in to it, cowski. I think I found the problem. It lies in the order in which you pick your curves. It will ask for a position of the new curve, either before or after.

I think this is where I got hung up. The whole procedure seems very awkward, and by no means straight forward. I guess I learn something new every day!

Yes, there is room for improvement in the prompts and error messages UG gives you. I'll also agree that some procedures are not straight forward; for instance I'm always amazed at the number of clicks involved for something as simple as moving or rotating a piece of geometry.
