When selecting a retaining ring I almost always run into this situation. I end up needing a retaining ring that does not fit within the standard sizes. Sometimes I am putting a retaining ring in to contrain the motion of a bearing within a bore. For example, lets say my bore is 2.281" in diameter. I look at the available retaining rings and there sizes are 2.312" and 2.25". Which do I choose? I would think that I would choose the larger of the two. Another example, suppose I wanted to put a retaining ring in between a bearing ID and a shaft. The shaft diameter is 2.281" and the available retaining rings are sized for 2.312" and 2.25", which do I choose? I would think that I should choose the smaller of the two. Anybody have previous experience with this? Thanks in advance for your posts.
