AREMA states that for members receiving load from four tracks, use full live load for two tracks, then half on the third, and a quarter on the fourth. Unless, however, the tracks are “widely spaced” in which case it is permissible to use only the full live on the nearest two tracks. I have looked, but cannot seem to find how “widely spaced” is defined. Can someone point me in the right direction?

14 feet is a minimum center to center for straight tracks, 17 feet is a minimum for center to center for 400 foot radius curves and tighter curves need greater spacing. I would assume 150% of minimum would qualify as widely spaced.

Fantastic! Thank you so much civilperson!
