Retaining Wall with 90 degree corner

Hello All,

I designed a retaining wall with 90 degree corner

does corner of retaining wall need a U-bars or not. 1 foot thick stem

the picture show a layout of retaining wall, its for a loading dock, with 90 degree corners.

my question: do i need a u bars at corner to connect the stem or no need for u bars connection at corners

Are you sure you don't mean 'L' bars?

Look, nobody's going to know the answer to this question. Do you need U bars? Maybe. What's the load demand on the wall? Are you asking a question about detailing? or strength? crack control?

Personally, I don't know what you mean by 'U bars to connect the stem' but maybe someone else will.

I know what you mean. You are probably referring to my comment in another post of yours, but I think that was a water retaining structure.

Lapping U-bars, also called hairpins, are best practice for opening corners, because the efficiency of the joint is improved. But only you can decide if you really need a highly efficient opening joint in the horizontal direction.

The term "joint efficiency" means the ratio of joint capacity to the capacity of the adjacent straight section. Research by Nilsson in the 1970's showed that 80% efficiency could be achieved with the two hairpin detail.

yeah, i thought same idea will work for retaining wall with 90 degree angle.
i m also thinking about keeping stem independently without any lapping at corner.
