We are using NX 7.5 and Teamcenter 8. I am trying to set up some reusable parts that automatically generate the correct part numbers.
Our part numbers are formatted 123456 for assemblies and 123456-001 for parts inside the assembly. I want to add a reusable part to assembly 123456 and have it number itself 123456-001.
Right now it defaults to <TEMPLATE_NAME>_??? so I end up with a part numbered 123457 and the part name is tube_001. I want it to be 123456-001 and be named tube.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Isn't the point of re-usable parts to use a common part number in ALL your assemblies that is the same physical part? If you rename the generic entry for every instance where used, you have a proliferation of part numbers and little chance of reconcilling the fact that you use 25 of item 125456.

There is a clone option in reusable parts, I just want it to number the parts correctly. We use a lot of aluminum tubing. We use an expression to keep track of the cut length of the material and one to keep track of the material number. A 6 inch piece and a 20 foot piece are both cut from the same stock material. We have thousands of drawings structured this way and it is not going to change. The process has been around a lot longer than me. I have a reusable part set up that lets me select the dimensions of the tube, then fills in the expressions off of a spreadsheet. I just want to know what to replace <TEMPLATE_NAME>_??? with so that it gets the part number from the parent assembly.
