Hello Everybody,

How is possible to design with ASME VIII Div.1 Appendix-2 a Reverse Loose Flange with an external bolt circle ?

Thanking all

u236, Appendix 2-13 does not meet your needs? Do you mean "C" is greater than "A"? Perhaps a sketch is in order...

Mike

I've seen some odd things in my time, but a reverse flange is something new to me.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Dear

@SnTman, I'm sorry I don't have any sketch, but yes with C that is more than A.
@LittleInch, yes

Thanking all.

u236, well, hard to say without a sketch, but it is possible that a normal Appendix 2 flange may be suitable. See definition of A in the nomenclature. Note that C > A does not present any computational difficulties.

LittleInch, I have seen them used in some types of heat exchangers, outside of that I dunno.

u236, this is a fairly ordinary Apx 2 flange. C (bolt circle) IS NOT greater than A (flange OD).

Given the weld detail, perhaps not a true integral flange. I'd likely run it as a loose flange with hub, perhaps disregarding the portion beyond the weld toe. You should be able to sell that approach to just about anybody, I'd think.

EDIT: BTW, your weld detail is just a groove weld. This detail does not determine whether the flange is reverse or not. Fig. UW-13(i) may be applicable.
