reverse inductive signal?

I have a quick question maybe some of you may know the answer to.
I have little to no experience with electromagnetic principles so please keep that in mind.
I was wondering if it was possible to do the reverse of this project and instead of extracting audio from this mechanism to instead use it to send audio through it and onto the lines. In otherwords if this was to be plugged into the audio out port of a device like a computer or radio would I be able to send audible sound through the line? I don't have any interest in extracting the sound from the lines but rather the opposite.

Obviously, inductive coupling could potentially induce a signal INTO the phone line.

BUT, most of the inductive couplers are effectively step-DOWN transformers, since the signal on the phone line is quite large. Therefore, you would need an excessively large voltage or a step-UP transformer. In either case, it's very likely that the extra voltage excursions will damage the phone equipment on the line.
