Revising which model revision is linked to a 2D sheet.

How can I replace a linked component inside of my 2D sheet with its newer revision. Some of our older drawings created a link between the model and drawing sheet rather then adding the model as a component of the drawing sheet so it's easily replaceable by the newer rev. I cannot figure out how to alter this link outside of reving the model while you have the sheet loaded, is there a way?

You can update the link to the new file by adding your part as a component of the drawing, edit the wave link feature and select the body of the newly added component, delete the component out of the drawing file. This will update the link to point to the new file. However, at this point it is highly likely that all of your dimensions will become unassociated and go into a "retained" state. If this happens, I'd suggest undoing all that and do the following instead: insert your part as a component of the drawing, delete the linked body, update the drafting views and reattach all of the dimensions to the new component body. If you have to reattach all the dimensions anyway, you might at least be left with a master model drawing that you can more easily swap out components in the future.

The second solution has been my default and what I was trying to avoid (50+ dimensions / part callouts on 10+ sheets per drawing sometimes), i'll give the wave edit a try in the morning, assuming the "Retained" state still shows the dimensions as they were(or is that just the same as being detached from their origin and appearing dashed?).

Can you somehow trace how this linked body was created ?
did somebody add the component, create the linked body and then delete the component ?
Or did they have the drawing loaded as a component in a higher assembly and then created the linked body from another component in the same structure ( If this is how, then the link should be possible to update it that assy still exists.)

When they go to "Base view" or "View Creation Wizard", rather than selecting the drawing sheet to build the view with, which they should have added the assembly to already, they select the assembly to build the view with which then creates the link.
