We have a Gate Valve, 10", class 300, RF, WCB. We found that the Raised Face (RF) height is 1.00 mm on one side & 2.80 mm on the other side. Can any one gide us if the above RF heights are acceptable as per ASME B 16.5. What should be the standard RF heights as per ASME B 16.5.

If the flange is per ASME B16.34, then the raised face should be to B16.5 I think (see B16.34 para 6.2.2), so yes, 1.6 mm on each side.

If not, than the relevant standard to which the flange is made may tell you the answer.
Do you have any data on that?

You will have to go to the relevant standards yourself to check actual RF heights and tolerences.

Another thing is that I know of no standard allowing the two sides RF of a valve to have this amount of difference. Is this original from the manufacturor, sides equall machined and treated same way (no variation in coating thickness)? Building length within allowed measurement?

Even if this will be acceptable when mounted with flange sealings, I would check with supplier, as this could indicate unpreciseness or sloppiness in machining or quality control, lower casting quality, and unacceptable variations in machining of other parts.

Systematic fault or not?
