Hi,

I have a planetary gear set with the ring as input and planet as output. The sun is connected and disconnected from the ring(Sun does not remain stationary alone. it moves with the ring on application of the clutch). the shafts of the ring and the sun are connected to disks. Between the discs is a viscous fluid which can be magnetised. The magnetisation of the fluid acts as the clutch. when the sun is connected to the ring through the magnetic clutch torque is transferred.

The no of teeth
sun -20
planet -16
ring - 52 . gear ratio - as per design = 2.6....
The output torque is supposed to be 3.6times the input torque
These are the info available

Can someone tell me how i can find the speed of the sun. suggest your formulations. I know input speed and the speed diff between input and output(so speed of planet is known)..thanks

I think when you connect the ring to the sun, the speed ratio and the torque ratio becomes 1:1, and the planet gears are basically acting as splines, as long as the mag clutch is fully 'locked'.

When you disconnect that clutch, AND apply a brake to the ring, you get speed reduction and torque multiplication.

When the mag clutch is slipping, i.e. 'halfway on'... well, I'm not sure what happens; thinking about it is making my head hurt.
