Is it possible to perform Ultrasonic testing of the RJ groove face? We have some flanges that have a defect in the groove that looks like delamination, as if it had been machined incorrectly, built back out with weld filler, and then remachined. I want to verify if this is the case with UT, but a 3rd party has said they cannot do this since it's not a flat surface.

Just looking for a 2nd opinion.

Can you post a picture or sketch of the geometry?

Here's a picture of the defect.

Dye pt or magnetic particles if the material is magnetic. Maybe Rx, ultrasonic due to configuration geometie of the part won´t be feasible imo.

Try it with Dye Penetrant testing or with Wet MPI (If Possible).
