Is there any code or clause that prevents us from applying Roof Live Load Reduction in a Risk Category III or IV building?

Live load reduction is based on tributary area and (In the case of roof live loads) slope. Live load reduction is not affected by the risk category of your building.

@andrews2: Thank you. I know that it is based on tributary area, and a couple of other factors. I just wanted to confirm that there is no code that prevents the Roof Live Load reduction for specific risk categories.

Unless there's a local amendment, I'm not aware of any prohibition on using roof live load reduction based on Risk Category.

Risk Category affects design wind speeds, seismic lateral/vertical loads, and snow loads.
