Hi, I understand each of these liners was docked more than once in New York without the assistance of tugs as the tug pilots were on strike. I cannot find any detailed information about how this was accomplished. It seems not possible, given the river flow, etc. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?
Slightly off-topic maybe.

It's basically like parallel parking, for the most part. Part of the reason modern cruise ships have side thrusters is so that they don't need tugs, in addition to providing stabilization.
