I have a project that involves putting a big skylight (16'x26', dead load 12psf) over a 2 stories atrium. The surrounding roof will be clay tile. The skylight will be supported by a frame. We hope to design a frame that would be used to support the second floor balcony as well. There are several problems that we need to address:
1. What kind of connection can we use to support the the skyline and the roof edge?
2. We are not sure how to address the drainage in the valley between the roof edge and the skylight either; how to fit the gutter into the space. It doesn't have to be water-tight.
3. Cost and Material selection for supporting frame: steel vs wood vs concrete. Any recommendation for cost effective method.
Thanks
