Hello,

I am looking for a motor that will be used to open an aluminum door. There will be a strong magnetic field present so I was looking toward a piezo/ultrasonic motor. I plan on attaching a pinion to the motor and a rack to the door. Does anyone know where I can find a motor for this application?

Thanks

Im afraid I can't answer your question, but I have some of my own.

1) If the magnetic field is strong enough to warrent dismissing an electromagnetic motor of some kind, then should you really be using a door made of conductive material?

2) What about a pneumatic actuator?

Mikey,

Thanks for your response. I did fail to realize the aluminum door would create some inductance.

Any type of actuator will not work. There is a 24" envelope on the side and the door itself is 22" long. We really need a rack and pinion design but all materials must be nonmagnetic

I thought of anodizing the aluminum to make it nonconductive, however the anodizing will cause high outgassing which is not allowed. Here are some constraints.
Temp=160F
Pressure=10^-6Torr
all parts must be low outgassing, nonmagnetic and electrically nonconductive.
Any suggestions?

no longer needs to be electrically nonconductive
