When using mechanical stops to limit the rotation of a swing or a plate mounted to a turntable, what is the rule of thumb concerning placement of the stops? Do you want to be close to the axis of rotation or at the max radius along the moving part from the axis of rotation? Is it feasible to be somewhere in the middle?

From the geometry, it would be more accurate to place the stops at the furthest radial position possible, since the angular error is the circumferencial error divided by the radius.
The larger the radius, the smaller the error.
