Rubber coated Pinch wheel 1

I am looking at an application where I need to feed a spearical object or round shaft using contoured feed wheels.

I would like the two feed (pinch) wheels to have a rubber or urthlene edge to allow a positive feed of material.

I do not know the process involved for attaching the rubber to the aluminium wheel.

I would like to know the process used to bond rubber to a metalic component or maybe a moulding process is employed.??

Roozle,

both for a rubber or a polyurethane covering the aluminium wheel must be gritblasted and cleaned with solvent. a bonding agent is applied and there is the first difference in used chemicals between rubber and pu.
Rubber is molded into a closed heated mold by compression or injectionmolding. Pu's are casted in theid liquid phase into an open mold.
For small quantity's pu will be the better choice, as the mold is rather inexpensive. Also the mechanical properties are general much better than rubber. If you need large quantity's of low stressed wheels rubber will be cheaper.
After demolding pu wheels must be machined. rubber ones will come finished out of the mold.

The problem is I will only ever be making one pair of pinch wheels and I don't really want to invest in a mould tool.

Does anyone know if a 'glueing' process is adequate.?
