Hello All,

What is the best method of bonding/joining two rubber parts together ?
I suppose using adhesive is one option but are there any others ?
For example can ultra sonic welding or over molding methods work ?
Thanks
R.

Maybe I should clarify that I am looking to make a wearable device out of TPE/Silicon like material that can be wrapped around a wrist.
The parts are in two pcs , top/bottom, with some electronics inside. I am wondering as how I can join the two rubber pcs ??

I doubt that ultrasonic welding will work with rubber - rubber isn't a thermoplastic and tends to degrade rather than melt.

One could use unvulcanized rubber between two rubber pieces and vulcanize the stack. This is used to make splices in rubber belts.

Vulcanizing is also used to put new rubber tread onto previously vulcanized tire casings.

Thanks Dave.
But wouldn't the process of Vulcanizing (applying heat) damage the two rubber parts?

Vulcanizing causes the rubber molecules to crosslink. The existing rubber can't get much more crosslinked than it got when it was first vulcanized. Use Google to find how the process works for rubber belts and re-built tires.

Synthetic Rubber adhesive can stick two rubber objects, except silicone rubber

Adhesives or vulcanizing?
