Please could someone offer guidance/ explanation on the "Ruling Dimesnsion" notation on a technical drawing.
For example, the drawing for a machined metallic detail approximately 6mm thick calls for a ruling dimension of 8mm.
I believe that it notates the maximum thickness of the starting material so as to ensure the material properties are consistent throughout the machined parts.
