rusty 17-7 springs? 1

Hi all,
I just received some springs from vendor that appear to have a rusty finish... the bag is covered in orange dust. Springs are supposed to be 17-7, and vendor provided a copy of the cert when requested.

My print says "17-7 treated to H900 after coiling". I realize now that it should be CH900... I crossed accidentally used my old 17-4 heattreat specs...
Is the CH900 different process, or is the C reference to the C in the 17-7?

(also asking the vendor, but it always helps to have a 2nd opinion)

As far as I know, there is no such thing as 17-7 PH condition H900, only CH900. The condition A material is cold worked to condition C and then heat treated to condition CH900. The springs should not be rusty. 17-7 is not the most corrosion resistant stainless but it's generally considered to have good corrosion resistance.

Thx dgallup. this was my assumption. I've only worked with 17-7 a couple times, and it was a few years ago. Was doubting my memory.
