Hello all! I'm a new user looking for a little help.

We are looking for an equivalent to S45C which i believe is a Chinese spec which we cannot source in the UK.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes i've tried Google but haven't got very far.

It's a alloy steel, possibly for gear box shafts etc?

JIS G 4051 might be an equivalent (according to google) but i've no idea what that is either.

well without even clicking the links I found out that its a common specification applying to round bar stock, adn has a carbon content of 0.45%wt.

I alos see that it can be related to 1045 carbon steel (commonly know as AISI grades, but thats not true anymore)

If you need to buy some then there are lots of places that will sell 1045 bar stock, the UK must have an equivalent to McMaster Carr.....Or Grainger.

The European equivalent is C45E (1.1191) according to BS EN 10083-1 or C45 (1.0503) according to BS EN 10277-2.

JIS S45C is medium carbon steel with 0.45%C.
JIS code for steels always start with S (which means steel)
SXXC, Steel plain Carbon
SUPXX, P denotes Piano (for spring)
SUSXXX, S denotes Stainless
SUMXX, M denotes machining
.......

Best regards,
ct
