Can cladding (316L) be applied on SA 105N flange or is weld overlay of 316L a better option??

There is a cladded vessel and the vendor is taking cladded plate for the shell(material SA 516 70) but for flange of SA 105N, vendor is applying a weld overlay of 316L.

So, is cladding possible of a SA 105 flange?? Or is weld overlay the only possible option?

Weld overlay

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Cladding is possible, depends the type of flange and dimensions.

@r6155: For nozzles upto the size of 20", is it possible to clad them, flanges as per ASME B16.5. And what is a cost effective solution in case of flanges? Cladding or weld overlay

availability of cladded flange is an issue.
It is better to take ss flanges for smaller size or carry out weld overlay.

In case of nozzle (i.e. pipe+flange)generally , it is not feasible to carry out weld overlay on 4" and below nozzles.

Depends of PV fabricator and regional marketing.

Weld overlay is most often done for cost and delivery.
