Hi,
for ASME II PART.A SA 106 gr.B steel shall be killed (see par. 4.1). I have some certificates where this is clearly written; in other ones, this information is missing. Why? Is a note like "material acc. to ASME II PART.A" enough to avoid writing it? Or is it necessary to write it on MTR?

Thanks

No, it is not necessary to repeat the obvious. Look at the chemical analysis results on the certificate and if silicon is present or even aluminum and silicon, the steel is fully killed.

We have had to contact mills in the past to ask stuff like this- I think ALL their steel was killed- so it wasn't on the report.

AS you point out paragraph 4.1 in SA-106 states that the steel shall be killed. Ergo to be certified as SA-106 it must be killed.

A-106 requires a minimum Si content of 0.10% which is considered Killed. While I would prefer a minimum of 0.12%, this requirement for killed steel has been a fact for decades. You will most likely find the Si content to be > 0.15% on your mill cert.

To satisfy the ASME Code you must state how, Si or ALU. A simple receivig statement based on the MTR's Chem report.

According to ASME Code Section VIII Div 1, it doesn't mandatory for the MTR for the pipe? Marking is enough for it.

ASME Code Sect II part A requirements must be met
