Dear all,

My client is requesting the use of 317L seamless tubes for a heat exchanger. However, I cannot find this material in ASME II Part D.

Can anybody help me with this?

My guess is that your client is living in the past.
1. welded heat exchanger tubing can offer much higher performance and reliability than seamless, if you require the correct testing.
2. 317 has one of the worst price/performance ratios of any SS grade
The only seamless 317 in the code is pipe.
If they are using it because 317 worked 30 years ago then they are in for a rude surprise when today's alloy fails. Chemistry today are much less corrosion resistant than they were in the past.
Go to a welded 6%Mo tube and use less wall thickness.
Or, if the temp isn't over 600F use a super-ferritic (S44660) and get lower cost, better heat transfer, and better corrosion resistance.
