Can I use bar made of SA-276-304 as an equivilant to SA-479-304 in a pressure vessel? The code heading for the material spec does not list it "for Pressure Vessels" and the code software I use (Computer Engineering Inc.'s Advanced Pressure Vessel) does not have it listed as a possibility. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

Mitch Yurkovich

No, not for pressure retaining applications.

A number of bar materials in grade 304 are listed in ASME Section II Part D for use with Section VIII applications, but SA-276 does not seem to be one of them.
