I've been given the job of drawing a safety equipment, emergency exit, lifraft/muster station etc. plan to be posted on a passenger ferry for reference by the general public. Does any one have or know of standards for the designing of such a drawing such as size, layout, format etc as well as what items must be included. any help would be appreciated...Mike

Probably the best place to start would be the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Under section 46 which is shipping, you will find every rule and regulation that is required to make your signs. You can buy the CFR's, but they are very costly. I know that if you go to the following web site, you will find a link to the CFR's. The link is located under Government Sources. It also includes a search routine to help you find the particular information you requested. Just remember the main two CFR's used in shipping are CFR 46 and CFR 33. Hope this helps.

The plan you are drawing is called "Safety Plan" or "Fire Control Plan". The item it should include and the standard icon for each items are stipulated in SOLAS,1974(Fire Control Plan).
