safety factor for sliding and overturning in case of temporary structures 1

Dear Engineers,

It has been much discussed in this forum referring to various codes on 1.5 safety factor for sliding and overturning. My query is can this factor be reduced in case of foundations for temporary structures.

Check your local code and it will depend on what critical is the temporary structure but I would use something similar to FOS for short-term loading, something about 1.1 ~1.2.

Also, some temporary structures are used during construction, and some contractors just scarily and freely load these temporary structures without thinking on the consequences for a potential failure so if this poses a life-safety risk, you may need to consider higher FOS.

I couldn't find anything specific on temporary structures in local codes. Can you direct me to any reference which allows 1.1 ~1.2 for temporary structures.

IBC 2015 allows FS = 1.1 for overturning for (permanent) retaining walls where seismic governs the load combo. 1807.2
