we had an argument here, we are designing an refinated products storage and distribution terminal and according
to a table of minimum distances between equipment, tanks, racks, and buildings for safety reasons, it is read that between fire pump stations and administration buildings the distance should be 15 m.
In this case they would like to have a two story building with the fire pumps on the floor and the offices, electric room, a meeting room in the first floor, my impresion is that being so near probably 4 m must be a safety risk, but others opinion say that the table applies to outsiders not insiders (that is operartors and plant personnel). Could someone gave us some opinions or indicate us where to look to solve this.

Hm.. for a practical point of view, don't put equipment close to office personnel.
If the fire water pumps have internal combustion engines, they will be quite noisy. Think about the sound proof brick and plaster you will have to apply. At the end you will need to build a special building far away from the "industrial zone" where they can do their work in peace.

svanels,

How about the concept to install fire pumps in machine room?

As long as the machine room is close to the water source, this can be a river, a pond, the sea or a lake. Fire water pumps are mainly centrifugal pumps and we cannot afford very long suction lines.
If it is in a machine room, together with other running equipment, an operator doing his rounds, there are much more eyes on it than if it is somewhere far away, when ocassionally someone passes by.
And when needed it cannot start because the batteries are missing ...[thumbsup]

One of the things that cannot be stolen is the the clock, because everybody is watching it...
