Im fitting a sanden 090 air comp comoressor to a small block chev. These are a scroll type unit, and im hoping a good one too. Not seeing any marking 'saying this way' etc i was going to mount it with the ports on the topside. Any other info on these compressors would be helpful.

Cheers,
Ken

The TRS090 Sanden compressor comes in two flavors. The Honda version is designed to rotate CCW (viewed from the drive end)(engines that face drivers side). This would not be a good choice for you SBC (rotates CW). The Chrysler version is designed to rotate CW (engines that face passenger side). Recip compressors with reed valves are often capable of rotation both CW & CCW, scrolls can not. Sanden engineers in Japan state that it can be mounted in any orientation. Engineers in Texas believe that oil draining out when ports are "down" might cause a problem. I would limit the ports within 90 degrees of "up". This scroll is very efficient at RPM's from 2000 to 7000, much higher than piston compressors. Your system needs protection from high discharge pressures when condenser air flow is low (vehicle stopped). Otherwise these scroll compressors are a great choice.

Motorbuddy,
Thankyou very much for the info!!
I had to recheck the rotation, and it is a CW version. Double checked turning by hand.
Im in Australia so not sure what it is off, was purchased from a dismantlers.

The efficiency you mention, are you refering to low power requirements?
