Can anyone offer some insight to the advantages and or disadvantages of using high speed (> 1700 rpm) pumps for residential sanitary lift stations. Looking at a 35 hp, 230 V constant speed pump that will run at 3530 rpm.

Thanks.

The disadvantage of the higher pump speed is that the pump will wear out faster. It is like driving a car at 100 mph versus driving the car at 30 mph.

However, sometimes the higher rpm is necessary to meet the particular pumping requirements.

You should also be looking at the use of a 480 volt pump. It will probably save electrical power costs over a 240 Volt power supply.
