Hi all,
I have been trying to design expansion joints in SAP2000, and I haven't figured it out clearly.
I was told that it is common to design two buildings separately, assuming that there are no expansion joints, as those joints are designed afterwards to allow the resulting displacements.
However, the expansion joints that I am trying to design are for the buildings built in 1980's, and they allow shear transfer.
As I am getting higher displacement than I expected for the building that I am modeling,
proper modeling of expansion joints and the corresponding shear transfer is assumed to decrease the displacement.
Does anyone have an idea on how I can model expansion joints that allow shear transfer in SAP?
Thank you very much in advance.
