Hi everyone, I'm new to SAP2000. Trying to modelling beams that top on each other.

You think ı have to use cardinal points or modelling separatly those two beams and use as load the top one?

I'd model the beams in the same plane and adjust the torsional member properties such that bending moments in the loaded beams don't become torsional loads in the supported beams.

You can do it with a small vertical separation and some small vertical pin ended stubs to recreate the load path associated with the vertical separation. Just restrain each layer appropriately to stop them 'falling over'.

This will also directly give you the vertical load transfer as the axial load in the stubs which can be useful for designing the connections between the layered beams.

I don't know if SAP has a "offset" command (like STAAD)......but you might try that. If not.....maybe some rigid links?

I am not A SAP user, but Vertical Rigid Links may work enough. I am sure your framing is a little more complex than what you are showing. If the upper beam will not remain flat on top of the lower beam due to bending, you will still get some slight torsion from the point load reaction at the inner edge of the lower beam.

There is an offset option in Sap it mentioned somewhere as insertion point offset not sure what exactly it is called
It's been a while since I used it. Anyhow any specific reason why you would not model them as point loads on the beams below?
