Hey Everyone,One of the design boys had a good one and I need some help on this one. He has an assembly that has sub-assemblies, total of 30-50 parts, and he would like to save them but add a prefix onto the front of all the parts, as in currently 12345678.prt and new ZZ_12345678.prt, bracket for this part, 2345.prt-new-ZZ_2345.prt. The same prefix on all the assemblies and subassemblies on the master assembly.
Let me know if you have any great ideas and thanks.

Have you looked into "Cloning" ?
It should do what you want it to do, but it will create new parts for you, not just rename the current parts.

What version of NX are you using?

This is the basics of the way cloning is done in NX6, I think NX5 was the same, or very similar.
With your assembly open:
assemblies (pull-down) > cloning > create clone assembly > naming (tab) > define naming rule > add prefix > "ZZ_" > Main (tab) > execute

Cloning has been pretty much the same functionality since jack was a boy so it will work as expected for what you describe.

Best Regards
