When I first started learning UG in the mid to late 90's, I remember being told that it is best to save the files in wireframe. Something to do with shading taking up more space or something. I dont remember exactly why.
These days I notice that when it is shaded, my product moves smoothly but if I have it on wireframe, motion can be a little choppy. This makes me think there is more information being worked with to accommodate all the many lines and shading seems better.
Does it make any difference whether a file is saved in wireframe or shaded these days? I personally prefer to keep shaded just because of the choppy motion of wireframe when moving it around.

My brain is like a sponge. A sopping wet sponge. When I use it, I seem to lose more than I soak in.
