Application: Process automation using SCADA software.

The general practice while implementing Process automation with PC based HMI system (SCADA) one has to pass through 2 stages..

1. write codes on to PLC for the application... and setup communication parameters for SCADA.

2. Build up screens Using any SCADA application software and interface the same with PLC.

It becomes quite cumbersome during the commissioning and trouble shooting of the system, especially when certain changes have to be carried out on the PLC codes.

Does any one know of a software that has both PLC programming and SCADA built into one??

I think you should try National Instruments product

shyam:
There are several vendors who offer both plc and HMI programs - these use a common database (or tag dictionary), which takes a lot of the extra work out of the equation. GE/Fanuc sells both VersaPro plc software and Cimplicity HMI, which use a common database; Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) sells RSLogix and RSView; and if you are willing to consider PC-based control (bypass the plc alltogether), Wonderware's Intouch will do the control and the HMI with a single database.
Even if you cannot use a single vendor's products, most of them are now sophisticated that you can export/import the databases into Microsoft's Access, and save a lot of extra typing that way

I'm currently helping someone out right now with a AB SLC5/05 as a master and a number of Micrologix 1200's as slaves and HMI's of all types.

If you were to go to the web site and search for SCADA and download the SCADA apllication planning guide along with the user guide. You'll find there is a step by step setup for the system planning and based on the type of system, a hardware setup guide (w/ pictures)of each type of plc platform. Appendix D has the Ladder logic for What ever senerio you choose. RSView 32 comes with Messenger (free add-on along with a number of other very useful progs like Recipe pro, Data logging and backup that a must), Which will notify you in a number of different ways such as e-mail, paging, alarms, and others.

There is already a sample Waterplant for it that could help out.

If you want PLC and HMI all done in one shot and want the ability to use both Ladder in one prog file working with a function block PID in another file. RSlogix 5800 softcontrol with the control pak for the screens face plates.

I have done a lot of research in the SCADA area, I help setup 4800 baud lic modems as well as the spread spectrum modems.
If you need any help let me know.

I have done WW, RSView32, TCP, and CTC HMI's and found benifits to each. I hoped this helped.
