I am looking for scheduling software. We build sign structures which are basically four different configurations of several different lenghts. I would like to have a software that takes into account raw material delivery, machine loading, assembly area usage (since these structures require a large area for assembly), etc. We dont have the money to purchase a full blown scheduling system. What I would like is something a few notches above Microsoft Project.

Sounds like you are looking for ERP or MRP software. You might have luck searching Google for open source versions of these types of software if you have a decent programmer onboard at your company.

One example would be:

the lite version of their software is pretty good if you have relatively simple routes, it handles 1000 operations/stage in any schedule. Space can be modeled as a workcentre with finite capacity. It costs around £250, we were considering it as a checp bolt on to our manufacturing system to handle what if scenarios.
