Screw Auger - Motor Wobble

Hey Guys,

We have an auger that has a direct drive Hollow Shaft Mounted Gearbox. The whole gearbox and motor wobbles approx. 1/8" total. The Torque arm has a rubber bushing that came with the gearbox. My understanding is that hollow shaft mounted gearboxes will natrually wobble but the question is, Is there a rule of thumb on How much wobble is acceptable? it does have a large thrust bearing. Maybe the question is dependent on how much the thrust bearing can take?

The amount of runout will depend on the lack of or precision runout of the details. Verify with the manufacture what they guarantee

Whoever designed the system should be sharing that detail with you. If they cant/wont and you need to understand the design's stickup limits then you'll need to either measure a sample batch or do a bit of reverse engineering and make a few assumptions about tolerances of the individual components.

Any wobble of a Shaft Mounted Gearbox is directly related to the straightness of the shaft on which it is mounted. If the shaft is straight, the gearbox won't wobble.

If the wobble is truly a problem, replace the shaft. I doubt if you can successfully straighten it.

The condition is a bent shaft. The symptom is a wobbling gearbox.

The bad effect of wobble will be bearing and seal damage. So this needs to be corrected.
