SE Fastener system issue 2

Hi All,

I'm a first time poster on the forum and hoping someone can help!

I've opened up an SE assembly model. There are bolts missing (see attached). According to PathFinder they are in a "Fastenersystem" (something I'm not familiar with). As with any broken link I'd right click on the part (in pathfinder) and would be an option to replace part (i.e. re-connect the broken link) but this option is greyed-out. The model was created by another company and sent to me.

How can i re-link the bolts?

Editing the Fastener Systems requires the Standard Parts Library to be set up and working as it is dependent on it. I would assume that if they gave you the files for the fasteners, they would still show up in Assembly. Don't know that much about it because we do not use it. The SE Community site may have some users with much more experience on Standard Parts.

If not set differnetly, here is how Fastener System works out-of-the-box:
1. when using Fastener System command, Solid Edge will search for the appropriate parts (bolts, washers, nuts) in the standard parts library.
2. when the Fastener System is created and assembly saved, all the standard parts, that were used, are copied into the following folder C:\Solid Edge Standard Parts\Standard Parts\3D-Standard_Parts_V10.95. This is the default folder for Solid Edge ST6 standard parts installation. This another company may have this folder set differently.
3. so, when you are opening this assembly, Solid Edge is looking for this particular folder. If you don't have it, parts can not be displayed. And if you have this folder, maybe you don't have those parts from the assembly in your standard parts folder (because you didn't use them yet).

So obviously, they didn't send those standard parts to you.

The easiest way to get those parts would be to ask this another company to send them to you.
The other way is with installing the standard parts library first. Then try to edit the Fastener System in this assembly so, that you select again the same components from your standard parts library.
Or again install standard parts library first. Then open the Standard Parts Administrator and generate those standard parts (or whole standard or category, which take more time of course), that you are missing.

Thank you for you replies - both very helpful and informative!

I've passed it onto a SE support so they can either add the missing fasteners to the library. It looks like we need to change the way we do things in-house and we have no control of modelling methods used (e.g. fastnersystem; through holes placed as extrusions instead of as holes etc) in the models that come in-house from other sources.

A further question to you both: Once fasteners are placed using Fastenersystem they appear in the browser under said title in a 'grouped' format. Is it possible to move them out of the group or would I have to re-insert them as if they were a part and contrain them accordingly?

If you open the assembly in revision manager, then you can define new folder for those standard parts. All the parts, defined with this new folder will still be constrained to the parts in the assembly.
So yes, you can mve those parts out of the group. But use Revision Manager, otherwise you can loose assembly constraints.

I did as you suggested - opened the assembly file in revision manager. I right clicked on the broken link and selected 'set action to replace' and then pointed at the folder! So simple!
