Sea Fasteners on a vessel 1

I am looking to find information regading sea fasteners to hold down deck equipment on a vessel. Typical fasteners are cleats that are welded to the deck and held into ISO pockts or forklift pockets. I am new to this and really looking for more information that is available and q am also intrested in any standards that may pertain to vessel deck fasteners.

As far as I am aware there are no 'standards' associated with seafastening, but there are some guidance documents.

For general seafastening you could look at the IMO Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing. It's not free however.

DNV Rules for the Classification of Ships

The majority of the time you need end up having to look at each case individually. This is because the vessel deck construction varies as does the construction of the equipment you are seafastening.

In simple terms, you need to determine the loading on the equipment due to the motion of the vessel, wind and wave loading and any applied operational loads. From your analysis you can determine the reactions at the deck, which will allow you to size you seafastening plates and the weld to the deck. You then need to verify the vessel deck has adequate strength to carry the loads applied and also that the structure you are seafastening also has adequate strength.
