Hello folks,
I am designing a pressure vessel according to division 1 rules. The PV will operate at a high temperature, so the LSR factor is 1.56, which results in a test pressure just about twice the design pressure when also factoring in the 1.3 multiplier.
This is causing concern with flange rotation at the hydro test pressure that may result in leaking seals. I am concerned that bolt preload sufficient to prevent seal leakage may result in flange deformation.
So the question is, for the hydro test can I substitute a seal that has less sealing capability at high temperature (which it won't be subjected to, obviously) but can handle higher flange rotation. The type of seals I am using are metal C-shaped seals with an internal spring.
