I have a spindle motor driving a work piece in a grinding application. Due to the nature of grinding, the load on spindle motor decreases with grinding plate wear. I would like to monitor the load on the spindle motor and apply a signal to a second motor used as a varible brake, which in turn would increase the load on the spindle motor by applying increased grinding friction. The load on the spindle motor would then remain constant. Are there off the shelf stsyems available to accomplish this? What type of motor should be used as a spindle motor with varible speeds 50-1000 RPM in the 3HP range? What type of motor can be used as a varible brake?

scarret, we have a new grinding set such one you describe. Would you mind to describe what material your grinding? or How big the motor do you have?
