Hi all,
I have an assembly which will not allow me to view a section. I get the message:
" Model could not be sectioned by the section line. Please check that the section line cuts through the model".

I an selecting the right plane as the cutting plane, which does split the assembly. I get the same message when I try to create a drawing with the same section, using a section line sketch or cut away.

This is a SW bug which happens occasionally. It's a PITA but the only workaround I know is to offset the section cut a tiny amount.

Thanks CBL, I'll give it a try.
Do you know if the bug was addressed in later versions?

Howdy swforge,

I had this happen to me recently with a fairly large assembly. I had already created the drawing with many views. After doing some editing in the assembly suddenly most of the sections seemed to have lost there focus and I could not create a new section. I discovered the problem was with just one of the parts. The part had a sweep that I had not fully defined the path of (bad on my part). The path had turned back on it's self (best way for me do describe it). It did not show up as an error. SW could not cut a section thru that one part. As soon as I fixed the sweep path the problem went away.

Hope that helps

I run across sectioning problems like this when I have a circular feature that is tangent to the sectioning plane. I either move the circular feature a fraction of a thousandths or move the sectioning plane a tad.

If you intend to show dimensions in the sectioned plane, doesn't moving it even 0.00001 create problems in the drawing (i.e. won't import dimensions) ?

Thanks for all the input.
I adjusted the cutting plane by a few thousandths and it works.
