Seeing individual elements of an instantiated Feature Template? (Part Navigator)

I have managed to instantiate a feature template into a part and it is visible in the window. The problem is that each individual element in the template cannot be accessed in the part navigator.
I want to be able to toggle the visibility of specific elements of the template.

I've not yet experimented with feature templates, but one of the selling points is the ability to package everything up into a single feature. If this isn't what you are looking for, perhaps something like a reusable object would better meet your needs?
