seeking references for blind welding

Hi,

I'm designing a steel casting that has a semicircular x-section and
two parts mate with themselves. Drawn unmated here:

I was going to specify welding the seam on the outside (o) and then
grinding it down, but I'm considering an inside seam weld (i)

.' `.
/ i\o
o|i
i|o
o\i /
`.____.'

because there wouldn't be any need for cleaning/grinding this internal
seam. I'm hoping for a 2~3" weld on a part with a 0.5" ID and a
rectangular (.4 x.6" ) access hole at the bottom. that a welding
probe "could" fit through.

Two questions:

1) The part isn't cast yet, and if there are crosssectional details
that could enable this "blind weld" there is almost zero opportunity
cost.

I'd like to get a better sense of available tools, processes
and other applications that use a blind weld. Can anyone point
give me some references and/or pointers ?

Thank you,

Here's a better version of the x-sections:

If you've got enough access to weld it from the inside, even using specialized tooling, then you could probably cast it in one piece instead of two, and not weld it at all.

yes,
but
there's a strap assembly that must be in place before welding.
sorry for not mentioning that earlier.

A little more googling/research coughs up phrases like seam and/or pipe welding that might be applicable.

Thank you,
