Does anyone have a good reference for any seismic considerations to take when designing underground structures such as concrete vaults, tunnels, and other civil structures? I am curious about retaining walls as well. The only reference I could find was form 1993, perhaps there is something more recent?
thanks-

rbudiman, thanks for the link!

Hi Okiryu.

thanks for the link.
I noticed you are from Japan, really need your help if you don't mind.
Our client is Japanese, and strictly convince us to us DSRSC of Japan Standard.(pls see attached cover)
Do you have English version of this, last time I asked Maruzen, but they said that they are not selling this anymore.
any clues??
do you have substitutes reference for this one which written in English?

steuey,

apologize for using your thread.

Hi rbudiman, are you working in Japan? The document that you attached are the guidelines for seismic design for railroads. I think that it is not available in English. What kind of structures are you designing?

Not sure if this can help but Professor Tamura has a good website in English for seismic design of foundations:

The Japan's port and harbor association has a good book for design of port facilities available in English. Seismic design section of their guidelines is good and may help you to understand the local requirements.

Hi Okiryu,

thank you for your reply.
I'm not working in Japan,.
We in Indonesia is constructing first MRT line here in Jakarta, and funded by Japanese.
I noticed you guys have a slightly different approach of seismic underground structure design.

We have been given that standard by our client, and translated to English only at seismic design chapter.
I cannot fully understand the translation, the translator are not really technical guys.

wish you could help us in understanding the Japanese standard in designing underground structure.

Could you attach the translation? I do not have that standard so looking at the translation I can check if there is a similar guideline which can help you.

Rbudiman - no problem, I am happy to let you use this thread. It is good information!

Hi Okiryu ,

Many thanks for your effort.
I got the version of English for the first attachment you put, but the problem is they translated it with minimum information.
They contains only few pages, much thinner than the one I have attached the cover pages.

Will double check the second attached link.
I'm not sure that will help, but thank you so much Okiryu.
