Hello everyone.
I am working on a new steel framed building in Nashville, TN, which utilizes K-braced frames. Most of my projects have been in the East Coast where seismic loads are typically not a concern, hence, we use "Steel Systems not specifically detailed for Seismic Resistance, except Cantilever Column Systems", which has an "R" of 3 - per table 12.2-1 of ASCE 7-10.
If anyone practices in Nashville, TN area, what Building Frame System do you typically use for a steel building?
I understand AISC 341 provisions will come into play if R>3 is utilized.
Thank you.

I should have mentioned that the building is a 4 story office building.

If you have the site class, go for Steel Systems not detailed. I was at a seminar several years ago and the presenter did a study of Moment Frames using the detailing requirements for R = 3, 3.5, 4.5, & 8. Basically the summarized conclusion was "it will save the project money to use R=3 if you are permitted." Working in the southeast, it can be well worth the $3,000 or so dollars to have a shear wave velocity test to get the site class down such that you are in SDC A, B, or C
