hi , then economy tight ? must select to gear drive for chain bucket conveyors following the specification:
material hangling height 17 meter and capacity conveyor 100 t/H and how gear drive selection of require power ?

scolfield,

Always remember that HP = (RPM * Torque)/5252. On a bucket Elevator the weight of the chain and the buckets counter balances, because for every bucket you are lifting, there is another one on the downward side falling. The whole problem is figured out by selecting a bucket size, the bucket spacing on the chain and knowing the density of the product you are moving. This will tell you how many buckets per hour you need to move the 100 tons/hour. Then knowing this and knowing the bucket spacing, you will be able to figure out the RPM needed for the driving sprocket/sheave. Also knowing the bucket spacing and the product density will give you the weight of the load at any given time. This can be converted into a torque over the driving sprocket/sheave. All this will give you the needed HP to drive the conveyor. I also suggest you provide a factor of safety to overcome any binding and or friction in the total drive train.
