selecting a part of an area to change its material properties

hi,
i have a created a 3Dimensional passenger compartment to perform acoustic analysis. I initially created areas and used the v-drag comand to create the volume. i have to select a part of an area to create the front and rear windows so that it will represent glass. the other part of the area will be steel.can anyone help me out please.

You can't select part of an area. For a area to be selected, it must exist. You can create this area by splitting current areas in your model along lines or other areas etc. I'm not sure I fully understand what you're trying to do either, as you say you've created a 3D object - using vdrag - but you're trying to model a 2D window area? More information would be good.
