I can see why a clay-based kitty litter would be bad for septic systems, but some new grain-based litters are claiming to be safe for septic systems. For example, "WORLD'S BEST CAT LITTER™ is septic and sewer safe, so all you have to do is scoop up the clumps and flush." (
It's a corn based product, coarser than corn meal - about 2 mm pellets. There are also wheat-based litters.
Would a septic field be able to digest a product like this? If do, it will make our lives a lot easier.
