Set as current ref set greyed out?

Why is my set as current ref set greyed out? Is this a customer default setting?

Because you cannot set( use) a reference set on the same level as you define it, you must have a higher level assembly as the displayed part to use ( set as current) the reference set.

It appears you are looking at the reference sets in the top level assembly. If this is the case, "set as current" has no meaning; a reference set is only used in the next higher assembly level. Open a piece part and try to change the "current" reference set - you can't because the reference set is a "filter" that only works in the parent assembly.

If you are trying to change the assembly configuration, look at using arrangements.

Ok, thank you Tomas, but we are in the situation that we make use of seed parts to create sub assemblies. So in the top level assembly we place all of our components and add them to a corresponding refset. Then we create a new part place the top level assy in it and choose the corresponding ref set. This works very well. Only issue is that when make some parts empty other solid in the top level, you need to do this manually every time you need some other components, it's very time consuming, and in the end you need to put everything back like the original situation before you can preform a save in top level assy. Any suggestions?

I just remembered that i can make use of arrangements for this purpose. That's working like a charm, at first it was hard to decide in which sequence you need to suppress a part or make and additional arragnement , but after a while you get the hang of it.
Thank you NX and eng-tips forum for making my (work-) life a little easier.....

See, there ARE reasons why we recommend that you avoid creating Reference Sets inside of an Assembly. Eventually you'll reach a point where the Reference Sets starts to act like filters preventing access to lower-level components.

it's grayed because it is a customer default setting, but you can deselect parts and sub-assemblies.
